In March 2024, I published a blog titled Attention Golfers: The Bay of Quinte Golf & Country Club Has a Big Surprise for the Start of the 2024 Golf Season.”  That post offered a detailed look at the exciting expansion plans for this popular golf destination.

Today, I’m thrilled to provide an update on the progress as we wrap up the 2024 season and look forward to what’s coming in 2025 and beyond.

Town Hall Meeting: A Vision for the Future

On November 30, 2024, I attended a packed Town Hall Meeting at X1X Restaurant, located at the Bay of Quinte Golf & Country Club. CEO Roger Lichty and his management team presented their latest updates in a presentation titled “Continuing to Evolve.”

The standing-room-only crowd of local golfers and club members were treated to an inside look at the ambitious plans to transform this semi-private country club into a premier public golf resort with two distinct 18-hole courses.

The morning didn’t stop after the presentation. Attendees were treated to a guided golf cart tour of the new golf holes on brand-new, freshly paved cart paths that meandered their way through the new course layout.

The sheer scale of this golf course expansion became strikingly clear during the tour, as attendees gazed out over vast acres of future golf holes and a massive water reservoir that seemed to be one-quarter the size of our local Oak Lake.

2025 Golf Season: What to Expect

The upcoming season promises even more excitement as the Bay of Quinte Golf & Country Club unveils additional holes in its phased expansion. Here’s what’s in store:

  • Three New Holes: Golfers will see three new holes added to the routing of the Black Course. Once the new routing takes effect in mid-May, hole #9 will be a new par three, and holes #13 and #14 will be a new par 4s. (the green for #14 is the one that we could see when we made the turn to head to the tee blocks for what was hole #14 in 2024)

  • Closure of Current Hole #18: This hole will remain closed for the entire season as it undergoes renovations. When it reopens in 2026, it will be a par-three hole, concluding the Old Course’s 18-hole layout.

  • Expansion of Parking Lot to the East: The berm on the east side of the property will be used to raise the level of the fairway on the old #18 hole by three feet so that it drains naturally into the pond.

  • Construction of a new Stay & Play Accommodation to the west of the main entrance.

Course Configuration for 2025

April to Mid-May:

A 20-hole course routing will feature nine new holes and 11 original holes. Includes a warm-up and playoff hole. The Old Nine will not be available during this period.

A Transformative Vision: From Semi-Private Club to Public Golf Resort

The Bay of Quinte Golf & Country Club’s evolution goes far beyond adding new golf holes.

Here’s a look at the broader vision:

  • Expanding to 36 holes with two unique 18-hole courses.

  • Focusing on social aspects to create a welcoming atmosphere for golfers of all levels.

  • Offering exclusive Pro Shop merchandise and unique guest services.

  • Enhancing amenities to elevate the overall golf experience.

Timeline for Transition:

  • 2025: One nine-hole course and a modified 18-hole course with two additional holes, a warm-up, and a playoff hole.

  • 2026: Preview year for two fully completed 18-hole courses.

  • 2027: Completion of Phase 1 and unveiling of the new course name.

Touring the New Golf Holes

Coming in 2026 - Future green for hole #18, Black Course, Bay of Quinte Golf & Country Club,

Several weeks before the Town Hall Meeting, I had the chance to preview the new golf holes with Roger Lichty. Witnessing a golf hole in its early stages is fascinating; just dirt, sand, trees, and water, but the vision for greatness was already taking shape.

Roger’s passion and excitement for this project were very evident. As I looked at sanded areas marking future tee blocks and greens, Roger saw the completed course in vivid detail. “Every golf hole is going to be special,” Roger shared. “No hole is designed simply to get golfers from point A to point B. Each golf hole will offer a unique challenge and a memorable experience.”

Looking Ahead

With the groundwork laid for an exceptional 2025 season and beyond, the Bay of Quinte Golf & Country Club is setting a new standard for golf in the Bay of Quinte and Prince Edward County region.

Whether you’re a regular player or a first-time visitor, the ongoing transformation promises a golf experience like no other.

I can't wait to tee it up on #1 of the Black Course on the Opening Day of the 2025 Golf Season.
